The fsck command takes a while to run, maybe 5 or 10 minutes, although that will vary depending on the size and speed of the drive. The first things you’re supposed to do are to run these commands: I could walk into any office, reboot a Mac into single-user mode, then wipe their hard drive. When you do, you’ll be logged in as root at a command line prompt.
